Tabari (1 passage)

  1. Full Dutch translation of Tabari's text

For placing (ثُلَّةٌ — "a multitude") in the nominative there are two possible explanations: one is that it begins a new sentence (istiʾnāf), and the other is that it is connected with His word: for the people of the right hand there are two multitudes — a multitude from the earlier ones. And it has been narrated from the Prophet ﷺ, along a path that is authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) from him, that he said: "Both multitudes together belong to my community."

    * Mention of who said that:

Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Mihrān related to us, on the authority of Sufyān, on the authority of Abān ibn Abī ʿAyyāsh, on the authority of Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās: ثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الأوَّلِينَ * وَثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الآخِرِينَ ("A multitude from the earlier ones and a multitude from the later ones"), he said: The Prophet ﷺ said: "They both together belong to my community."
