And His statement wa-kullu shayʾin faʿalūhu fī l-zubur ("and everything they did is in the scriptures") — the Exalted, whose praise is mentioned, says: and everything that your adherents who passed away before you, O community of the unbelievers of Quraysh, have done is in the scriptures (al-zubur) — that is to say: in the books that the guardians (the recording angels) have written down concerning them. And it is possible that what is meant by it is: in the mother-record of the Book (umm al-kitāb).
As was related to me on the authority of al-Ḥusayn, he said: I heard Abū Muʿādh say: ʿUbayd related to us, he said: I heard al-Ḍaḥḥāk say concerning His statement fī l-zubur; he said: the books.
Yūnus related to me, he said: Ibn Wahb informed us, he said: Ibn Zayd said, concerning His statement wa-kullu shayʾin faʿalūhu fī l-zubur; he said: in the Book.
