قُلْ تَرَبَّصُوا۟ فَإِنِّى مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْمُتَرَبِّصِينَ

Say, "Wait, for indeed I am, with you, among the waiters."

    His saying: قُلْ تَرَبَّصُوا "Say: Wait then." The Exalted, whose praise is sublime, says to His Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ: Say, O Muḥammad, to these polytheists (mushrikīn) who say to you: "You are a poet; we wait to see what vicissitude of time will befall you" — wait then, that is to say: wait and be patient in expectation of the vicissitude of time that might befall me, for I, together with you, am among those who wait to see what will come upon you, until the command of Allah befalls you.

    وقوله: ( قُلْ تَرَبَّصُوا ) يقول تعالى ذكره لنبيه محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم: قل يا محمد لهؤلاء المشركين الذين يقولون لك: إنك شاعر نتربص بك ريب المنون, تربصوا: أي انتظروا وتمهلوا فيّ ريب المنون, فإني معكم من المتربصين بكم, حتى يأتي أمر الله فيكم.
