And His word ( مَا أُرِيدُ مِنْهُمْ مِنْ رِزْقٍ ) ("I do not desire from them any provision"). He, exalted is His mention, says: I do not desire from those whom I have created — from the jinn and mankind — any provision with which they would provide for My creatures. ( وَمَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ يُطْعِمُونِ ) ("and I do not desire that they should feed Me"). He says: and I do not desire from them any food with which they would feed anyone, nor any nourishment with which they would nourish anyone.

And in accordance with what we have said concerning this, the exegetes have spoken.

    * Mention of who said that:

Ibn Bashshār related to us, saying: Muʿādh ibn Hishām related to us, saying: my father related to us, on the authority of ʿAmr ibn Mālik, on the authority of Abū al-Jawzāʾ, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās: ( مَا أُرِيدُ مِنْهُمْ مِنْ رِزْقٍ وَمَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ يُطْعِمُونِ ) ("I do not desire from them any provision and I do not desire that they should feed Me"), he said: that they should feed themselves.
