And Allah created the heavens and earth in truth and so that every soul may be recompensed for what it has earned, and they will not be wronged.

The explanation of the words of the Exalted: وَخَلَقَ اللَّهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ بِالْحَقِّ وَلِتُجْزَى كُلُّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ وَهُمْ لا يُظْلَمُونَ ("And Allah has created the heavens and the earth in truth, and so that every soul may be recompensed for what it has earned, and they will not be wronged") (45:22).
The Exalted, whose praise is proclaimed, says: وَخَلَقَ اللَّهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأرْضَ بِالْحَقِّ ("And Allah has created the heavens and the earth in truth") — for justice and for truth, not for that which these people, who are ignorant of Allah, imagined: that He would make equal, in life and in death, the one who committed evil deeds, disobeyed Him, and opposed His command, with those who believed and performed good works. For that would be an act of others than the people of justice and equity. The Exalted, whose praise is mighty, says: Allah did not create the heavens and the earth for injustice and unfairness, but rather We created them both for truth and for justice. And part of the truth is that We distinguish between the judgment upon the evildoer and the doer of good, in the near (this world) and the far (the Hereafter).
And His word: وَلِتُجْزَى كُلُّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ ("…and so that every soul may be recompensed for what it has earned"). The Exalted, whose praise is proclaimed, says: And so that Allah may recompense every doer for what he did — as the purpose of the creation of the heavens and the earth — the doer of good with goodness, and the evildoer with what is due to him; not so that We would deny the doer of good the reward of his good deed and impose upon him the crime of another and thus punish him, nor so that We would give the evildoer the reward of the good deed of another and thus honor him; but rather so that We would requite each according to what his hands have earned, and they will not be wronged in the recompense of their deeds.
