But they are in doubt, amusing themselves.

And His statement: بَلْ هُمْ فِي شَكٍّ يَلْعَبُونَ (Nay, they are in doubt, playing). He, exalted is His remembrance, says: they are not convinced of the truth of what is said to them and of what they are informed about through these tidings — by which He means the polytheists (mushrikīn) of Quraysh — but rather they are in doubt about it, and thus they amuse themselves in their doubt concerning that about which they are informed of it.
