كَغَلْىِ ٱلْحَمِيمِ

Like the boiling of scalding water.

    ( كَغَلْيِ الْحَمِيمِ ) — "like the boiling of the scalding water". He says: that boils in the bellies of these wretched ones like the boiling of the heated water, and that is the heated water which is so intensely heated that the severity of its heat has reached the utmost. One says: ḥamīm, which means the same as maḥmūm (heated), because the word is derived and transformed from the form of the passive participle (mafʿūl) to the form faʿīl, just as one says: qatīl (slain) as a derivation from maqtūl (slain).

    ( كَغَلْيِ الْحَمِيمِ ) يقول: يغلي ذلك في بطون هؤلاء الأشقياء كغلي الماء المحموم, وهو المسخن الذي قد أوقد عليه حتى تناهت شدّة حرّه, وقيل: حميم وهو محموم, لأنه مصروف من مفعول إلى فعيل, كما يقال: قتيل من مقتول.
