The explanation of His word, the Exalted: فَانْتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ فَانْظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ (Then We took vengeance upon them; so see how was the end of those who denied) (25)
The Exalted, whose praise is mentioned, says: Then We took vengeance upon these — those who denied their messengers — among the communities who disbelieved in their Lord, by sending down the punishment upon them. So see, O Muḥammad, how the outcome of their affair was, when they denied the signs of Allah. And by His word ( the end of those who denied ) He means: the final fate of those who denied the messengers of Allah, to what it came. He says: did We not destroy them and make them a cautionary example for others?
As Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda ( Then We took vengeance upon them; so see how was the end of those who denied ) he said: evil, by Allah, was it — He seized them with engulfing and drowning, then He destroyed them and caused them to enter the Fire.
