The explanation of the saying of the Exalted: AND AS FOR THOSE WHO HAVE TAKEN PROTECTORS BESIDES HIM — ALLAH IS WATCHER OVER THEM, AND YOU ARE NOT A GUARDIAN OVER THEM (6)
The Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says to His prophet Muḥammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace: ( AND AS FOR THOSE WHO HAVE TAKEN ), O Muḥammad, among the polytheists (mushrikīn) of your people, ( PROTECTORS BESIDES HIM ): gods whom they take as protector and worship, ( ALLAH IS WATCHER OVER THEM ): He reckons their deeds against them and preserves their works, in order to requite them for that on the Day of Resurrection. ( AND YOU ARE NOT A GUARDIAN OVER THEM ).
He says: and you, O Muḥammad, are not the guardian over them, charged with preserving their works; you are only a warner. So convey to them that with which you have been sent, for upon you rests only the conveyance, and upon Us rests the reckoning.
