The path of Allah, to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Unquestionably, to Allah do [all] matters evolve.

Tabari (1 passage)

  1. Full Dutch translation of Tabari's text

He to whom belongs the dominion over all that is in the heavens and all that is on the earth — He has no partner therein. And the second "path" (al-ṣirāṭ) is an explanatory repetition of the first path.

And His word, exalted be His praise: أَلا إِلَى اللَّهِ تَصِيرُ الأمُورُ ("Verily, to Allah do all affairs return") — He, exalted be His praise, says: verily, to Allah, O people, your affairs return in the Hereafter, whereupon He will judge between you with justice.

If someone were to say: do their affairs in the worldly life not belong to Him? — then it is answered: these, even though the disposal over all of this belongs to Him, nevertheless they have rulers and authorities who judge between them; but on the Day of Resurrection they have no judge and no ruler other than Him. For this reason it is said: to Him the affairs return there, even though all affairs belong to Him and in His hand is the disposal and the ordering of them in every state.
