The explanation of the saying of the Exalted: BUT IF THEY ARE TOO PROUD — THOSE WHO ARE WITH YOUR LORD GLORIFY HIM IN THE NIGHT AND THE DAY, AND THEY DO NOT GROW WEARY (38)

The Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: but if they are too proud, O Muḥammad — these among whom you dwell, the polytheists (mushrikīn) of the Quraysh — and account themselves too great to prostrate before Allah, who created them and created the sun and the moon, then the angels who are with your Lord are not too proud for that and do not account themselves too great for it, but rather they glorify Him and perform the prayer night and day, ( AND THEY DO NOT GROW WEARY ). He says: and they do not slacken in their worship of Him, and they do not grow weary of the prayer to Him.

And in accordance with what we have said about this, the people of interpretation (ahl al-taʾwīl) have spoken.

    * Mention of who said that:

Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, he said: my father related to me, he said: my uncle related to me, he said: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His saying: ( BUT IF THEY ARE TOO PROUD — THOSE WHO ARE WITH YOUR LORD GLORIFY HIM IN THE NIGHT AND THE DAY ), he said: by this Muḥammad is meant. He says: My servants, the angels, stand arrayed in rows, they glorify and are not too proud.
