And His statement: ( يُسْحَبُونَ ) (they shall be dragged along). He says: the agents of punishment will, on the Day of Resurrection, drag those who in this world denied the Book through the boiling water (al-ḥamīm), which is that whose heat has reached its utmost and attained its peak.
And His statement: ( ثُمَّ فِي النَّارِ يُسْجَرُونَ ) (then in the Fire they shall be burned). He says: then they will be burned in the fire of Hell (jahannam). He says: Hell is stoked with them, that is to say: it is kindled with them.
And in the sense of what we have said concerning this, the exegetes of the Qurʾān have spoken.
* Mention of who said that:
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both of them — on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning his statement: ( يُسْجَرُونَ ) (they shall be burned). He said: the Fire is kindled with them.
Muḥammad related to us, saying: Aḥmad related to us, saying: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī: ( ثُمَّ فِي النَّارِ يُسْجَرُونَ ) (then in the Fire they shall be burned). He said: they are burned in the Fire.
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said, concerning his statement: ( ثُمَّ فِي النَّارِ يُسْجَرُونَ ) (then in the Fire they shall be burned). He said: they are burned in the Fire: it is kindled over them therein.
