The statement concerning the explanation of His saying, the Exalted: قُلْ إِنِّي نُهِيتُ أَنْ أَعْبُدَ الَّذِينَ تَدْعُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ لَمَّا جَاءَنِيَ الْبَيِّنَاتُ مِنْ رَبِّي وَأُمِرْتُ أَنْ أُسْلِمَ لِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ (66) (Say: "Indeed, I have been forbidden to worship that which you call upon besides Allah, now that the clear proofs from my Lord have come to me, and I have been commanded to submit to the Lord of the worlds.") (40:66)
The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says to His Prophet Muḥammad — may Allah bless him and grant him peace —: Say, O Muḥammad, to the polytheists (mushrikīn) of your people from the Quraysh: ( إِنِّي نُهِيتُ ) (indeed, I have been forbidden), O you people, ( أَنْ أَعْبُدَ الَّذِينَ تَدْعُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ ) (to worship that which you call upon besides Allah) among the gods and the idols ( لَمَّا جَاءَنِيَ الْبَيِّنَاتُ مِنْ رَبِّي ) (now that the clear proofs from my Lord have come to me). He says: now that the clear signs from my Lord have come to me, and those are the signs of the Book of Allah which He has sent down. ( وَأُمِرْتُ أَنْ أُسْلِمَ لِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ) (and I have been commanded to submit to the Lord of the worlds). He says: and my Lord has commanded me to submit in humility to the Lord of all things, and the Owner of all creation, through lowliness, and to submit to Him through obedience, to the exclusion of all else that exists.
