The explanation of the statement of the Exalted: Zij zeggen: Kwamen jullie boodschappers niet tot jullie met de duidelijke bewijzen? Zij zeggen: Jawel. Zij zeggen: Roept dan aan. Maar de aanroep van de ongelovigen (kāfir) is slechts in dwaling (40:50)
And His statement: ( They say: Did your messengers not come to you with the clear proofs? ) The Exalted, whose remembrance is sublime, says: the keepers of Hell (jahannam) say to them: did your messengers not come to you in the life of this world with the clear proofs of the evidences for the oneness of Allah, so that you would acknowledge Him alone, believe in Him, and dissociate yourselves from everything that was worshipped as gods besides Him? They say: yes indeed, our messengers truly came to us with that.
And His statement: ( They say: Then call upon Him ) The Exalted, whose praise is sublime, says: the keepers say to them: then call upon your Lord, your Lord to whom the messengers came to you with the call to believe in Him.
And His statement: ( But the call of the unbelievers (kāfir) is only in error ) He says: they have already called, but their call is only in error, for it is a call that does not benefit them and that is not answered for them; rather, it is said to them: Blijft daarin verstoten en spreekt Mij niet aan .
