And His statement: ( And indeed, it has been revealed to you and to those who were before you ) — the Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: and indeed, your Lord has revealed to you, O Muḥammad, and to those who were before you among the messengers: ( if you ascribe partners, your deeds will surely be brought to nothing ) — He says: if you ascribe anything whatsoever as a partner to Allah, O Muḥammad, then He will surely render your deed fruitless, and you will obtain no reward thereby, nor attain any recompense, except the recompense of whoever ascribes partners to Allah. And this is among that which is placed last while its meaning is foremost. The meaning of the wording is: and indeed, it has been revealed to you: if you ascribe partners, your deeds will surely be brought to nothing, and you will surely be among the losers — and to those who were before you, in the meaning of: and to those who were before you among the messengers something of this was revealed, the like of that which has been revealed to you of it. So beware that you do not ascribe anything whatsoever as a partner to Allah, for then you will perish.
And the meaning of His statement: ( and you will surely be among the losers ) is: and you will surely be among those who perish through ascribing partners to Allah, if you ascribe to Him anything whatsoever as a partner.
