Tafseer of Those drawn up in Ranks · As-Saaffaat · 37:21
[They will be told], "This is the Day of Judgement which you used to deny."

The explanation of the words of the Exalted: وَقَالُوا يَا وَيْلَنَا هَذَا يَوْمُ الدِّينِ (٢٠) هَذَا يَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ الَّذِي كُنْتُمْ بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ (٢١) (And they say: "Woe to us! This is the Day of Judgment (20). This is the Day of Decision which you used to deny" (21)).
The Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: And these polytheists (mushrikīn), the deniers, say — when a single driving shall be driven and a single blast shall be blown upon the trumpet: (يَا وَيْلَنَا هَذَا يَوْمُ الدِّينِ) ("Woe to us! This is the Day of Judgment"). They say: this is the Day of Requital and Reckoning.
And something similar to what we have said concerning this has been said by the people of interpretation (ahl al-taʾwīl).

Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning (هَذَا يَوْمُ الدِّينِ) ("This is the Day of Judgment"); he said: Allah shall thereon judge the servants according to their deeds.
Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Aḥmad ibn al-Mufaḍḍal related to us, saying: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī, concerning his word (هَذَا يَوْمُ الدِّينِ) ("This is the Day of Judgment"); he said: the Day of Reckoning.
And his word (هَذَا يَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ الَّذِي كُنْتُمْ بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ) ("This is the Day of Decision which you used to deny"): the Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: this is the Day on which Allah shall decide between His creatures with justice in His judgment, the Day which you used to deny in the worldly life and which you rejected.
And something similar to what we have said concerning this has been said by the people of interpretation (ahl al-taʾwīl).
