We called to him, "O Abraham,

And His statement ( And We called out to him: O Ibrāhīm, you have fulfilled the dream ) (37:104) — this is the answer to His statement ( And when they had both submitted ). The meaning of the utterance is: and when they had both submitted and he had laid him down upon his forehead, We called out to him: 'O Ibrāhīm.' The wāw ('and') has been inserted here just as it is inserted in His statement 'Until, when they reach it, and its gates are opened'. The Arabs sometimes do this, namely that they insert the wāw into the answer of fa-lammā ('when') and ḥattā ('until') and idhā ('when') when it connects with it.
