And His statement a-lam aʿhad ilaykum yā banī Ādama an lā taʿbudū sh-shayṭāna innahu lakum ʿaduwwun mubīn ("Did I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam, that you should not worship Satan? Indeed, he is to you a manifest enemy"). In the text something has been omitted, because the import of the text indicates it, namely: then it is said: Did I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam — He says: Did I not command and enjoin upon you in the worldly life that you should not worship Satan, so that you would obey him in disobedience to Allah? innahu lakum ʿaduwwun mubīn ("Indeed, he is to you a manifest enemy") — He says: and I say to you: indeed, Satan is to you a manifest enemy; he has made his enmity toward you clear by his refusal to prostrate before your father Adam, out of envy toward him for the honor that Allah had bestowed upon him, and by his deception of him, until he caused him and his wife to be expelled from the Garden (janna).
