And they say, "When is this promise, if you should be truthful?"

The statement concerning the explanation of His words, exalted is He: وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَى هَذَا الْوَعْدُ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ (48) ("And they say: When is this promise, if you are truthful?") (48)
He, exalted is His mention, says: and these polytheists (mushrikīn), who deny the threat of Allah and the resurrection after death, say, while hastily demanding from their Lord the punishment: ( مَتَى هَذَا الْوَعْدُ ) ("when is this promise?"), that is, the promise of the coming of the Hour, ( إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ ) ("if you are truthful"), O people. And this they say to the people who believe in Allah and His Messenger.
