Tafseer of Yaseen · Yaseen · 36:46
And no sign comes to them from the signs of their Lord except that they are from it turning away.

And His statement ( وَمَا تَأْتِيهِمْ مِنْ آيَةٍ مِنْ آيَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ إِلا كَانُوا عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ ) ("and no sign from the signs of their Lord comes to them, but that they turn away from it"): He, exalted is His mention, says: and no sign comes to these polytheists (mushrikīn) of the Quraysh — that is, a proof from the proofs of Allah and an indication from His indications concerning the truth of His oneness and the confirmation of His Messenger — but that they turn away from it; they do not reflect upon it nor ponder it, so that they might thereby know that with which Allah has argued against them.
If someone were to say: and where then is the answer to His statement ( وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ اتَّقُوا مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَمَا خَلْفَكُمْ ) ("and when it is said to them: fear what is before you and what is behind you")? Then the response is: the answer to it, and the answer to His statement ( وَمَا تَأْتِيهِمْ مِنْ آيَةٍ مِنْ آيَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ ) ("and no sign from the signs of their Lord comes to them"), is His statement ( إِلا كَانُوا عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ ) ("but that they turn away from it"). For the turning away on their part applied to every sign of Allah, and so this one answer sufficed, both with respect to His statement ( اتَّقُوا مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيكُمْ ) ("fear what is before you") and with respect to His statement ( وَمَا تَأْتِيهِمْ مِنْ آيَةٍ ) ("and no sign comes to them"), namely through the report about their turning away from it. For the meaning of the words is: and when it is said to them "fear what is before you and what is behind you," then they turn away; and when a sign comes to them, then they turn away.
