And it is Allah who sends the winds, and they stir the clouds, and We drive them to a dead land and give life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness. Thus is the resurrection.

The explanation of the word of the Exalted: And it is Allah who sends the winds, which then stir up clouds; then We drive them to a dead land and thereby give life to the earth after its death. Such is the resurrection (al-nushūr) (9)

The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: And it is Allah who sends the winds, which then stir up the clouds for the rain and the precipitation. ( Then We drive them to a dead land ) — He says: then We drive them to a land whose inhabitants have been stricken by drought, a barren earth, decayed, in which there is neither plant nor vegetation. ( Then We thereby give life to the earth after its death ) — He says: then, by the precipitation of those clouds, We make fertile the earth to which We have driven them after its drought, and We cause the vegetation to grow in it after the barrenness. (Such is the resurrection) — the Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: thus does Allah raise the dead after their decay in their graves, and gives them life after their perishing, just as We gave life to this earth by the precipitation after its death.

And in accordance with what we have said concerning this, the exegetes (ahl al-taʾwīl) also spoke.

    Mention of who said that:

Ibn Bashshār related to us, saying: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān related to us, saying: Sufyān related to us, on the authority of Salama ibn Kuhayl, who said: Abū al-Zaʿrāʾ related to us, on the authority of ʿAbd Allāh, who said: Between the two trumpet-blasts there will be what Allah wills there to be, and there is no child of Adam but that there is of him something in the earth. He said: then Allah sends down water from beneath the Throne, a fluid like the seed of the man, and from it their bodies and their flesh grow, just as the earth brings forth from the moist ground. Then he recited: ( And it is Allah who sends the winds, which then stir up clouds; then We drive them to a dead land… ) up to His word (Such is the resurrection). He said: then an angel with the trumpet stands up between the heaven and the earth, and blows into it, and then every soul hastens to its body and enters into it.

Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His word ( And it is Allah who sends the winds, which then stir up clouds ) — he said: He sends the winds that drive forward the clouds, and Allah gives life by this water to this dead earth; thus does He raise him up on the Day of Resurrection.
