The statement concerning the explanation of His saying, the Exalted: (6) (And those who have been given knowledge see that what has been sent down to you from your Lord is the Truth, and it guides to the path of the Almighty, the Praiseworthy) (6)

He, exalted is His mention, says: He has set that down in a clear Book, so that He may recompense those who believe and who strive after Our signs with that which He has made clear to them, and so that those who have been given knowledge may see. Thus "fa-yarā" (and they see) stands in the naṣb position, as a conjunction (ʿaṭf) upon His saying "yajzī" (He recompenses) in His word لِيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا (so that He may recompense those who believe). And by "those who have been given knowledge" are meant the Muslims among the People of the Book (ahl al-kitāb), such as ʿAbdullāh ibn Salām and his like, who had read the Books of Allah that were sent down before the Furqān (the Criterion, that is, the Qurʾān). Thus He, exalted is His mention, says: and so that these, to whom the knowledge of the Book of Allah — that is the Tawrāt — has been given, may see that the Book which has been sent down to you, O Muḥammad, from your Lord, is the Truth.

And it has been said: by "those who have been given knowledge" are meant the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

    * Mention of who said that:

Bishr related to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, وَيَرَى الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْعِلْمَ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِنْ رَبِّكَ هُوَ الْحَقَّ, he said: they are the companions of Muḥammad ﷺ.

And His saying وَيَهْدِي إِلَى صِرَاطِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَمِيدِ (and it guides to the path of the Almighty, the Praiseworthy), He says: and it guides whoever follows it and acts according to what is in it, to the way of Allah, the Almighty (al-ʿAzīz) in His recompense to His enemies, the Praiseworthy (al-Ḥamīd) among His creatures, for His blessings upon them and His favors toward them are many. And by this is meant that the Book which has been sent down to Muḥammad guides to Islam.
