The explanation of the saying of the Exalted: (34:32) (Those who were arrogant will say to those who were oppressed: Did we turn you away from the guidance after it had come to you? Nay, you were criminals.)
The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: (Those who were arrogant) in the worldly life, and who were foremost in misguidance and disbelief in Allah, لِلَّذِينَ اسْتُضْعِفُوا (to those who were oppressed) therein, and who were the followers of the people of misguidance among them, when these said to them: لَوْلا أَنْتُمْ لَكُنَّا مُؤْمِنِينَ (Had it not been for you, we would have been believers): (Did we turn you away from the guidance) and prevent you from following the truth, بَعْدَ إِذْ جَاءَكُمْ (after it had come to you) from Allah, and made it clear to you? (Nay, you were criminals); your preferring disbelief in Allah over faith prevented you from following the guidance and from believing in Allah and His messenger.
