The statement concerning the explanation of His saying, the Exalted: الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الأَرْضِ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ فِي الآخِرَةِ وَهُوَ الْحَكِيمُ الْخَبِيرُ (1) (All praise be to Allah, to Whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, and to Him belongs praise in the Hereafter; and He is the All-Wise, the All-Aware.) (1)
The Exalted, Whose praise is exalted, says: Complete thanks and full praise—all of that is due to the One Worshipped, Who is the Owner of everything that is in the seven heavens and in the seven earths, to the exclusion of all that they worship, and to the exclusion of everything else besides Him; there is no owner of anything thereof except Him. The meaning, then, is: He Who is the Owner of the whole of it. (and to Him belongs praise in the Hereafter) says: and to Him belongs complete thanks in the Hereafter, just as it is due to Him in this transient world; for from Him come all favors upon all who are in the heavens and on the earth in this world, and from Him that shall be also in the Hereafter. So all praise be to Allah, purely, to the exclusion of all else besides Him, in the nearness of this world and in the futurity of the Hereafter; for the favors all come from His side, and none other than Him shares with Him in that. And He is the All-Wise in the disposing of His creation and in guiding them according to His decree, All-Knowing of them and of what sets them aright, and of what they have done and what they will do, all-encompassing of all of that.
And in the spirit of what we have said concerning this, the people of exegesis have spoken.
* Mention of who said that:
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda (and He is the All-Wise, the All-Aware): wise in His disposing, all-knowing of His creation.
