The explanation of the saying of the Exalted: وَاذْكُرْنَ مَا يُتْلَى فِي بُيُوتِكُنَّ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ وَالْحِكْمَةِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ لَطِيفًا خَبِيرًا (34) (And remember what is recited in your houses of the signs of Allah and the wisdom. Truly, Allah is Subtle, All-Aware. (34))
The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says to the wives of His Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ: And remember the favor of Allah upon you, in that He has placed you in houses in which the signs of Allah and the wisdom are recited; give thanks to Allah for that and praise Him for it. And by His saying وَاذْكُرْنَ مَا يُتْلَى فِي بِيُوتِكُنَّ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ (And remember what is recited in your houses of the signs of Allah) He means: And remember what is recited in your houses of the signs of the Book of Allah and the wisdom. And by "the wisdom" He means: what was revealed to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ of the rulings of the religion of Allah, and for which no Qurʾān was sent down — and that is the Sunna (al-sunna).
And in accordance with what we have said concerning this, the exegetes have spoken.
* Mention of who said that:
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His saying: وَاذْكُرْنَ مَا يُتْلَى فِي بِيُوتِكُنَّ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ وَالْحِكْمَةِ (And remember what is recited in your houses of the signs of Allah and the wisdom): that is, the Sunna. He said: He brings this favor to their remembrance.
And His saying: إن اللَّهَ كَانَ لَطِيفًا خَبِيرًا (Truly, Allah is Subtle, All-Aware). The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: Truly, Allah was subtle (kind) toward you, when He placed you in the houses in which His signs and the wisdom are recited; All-Aware concerning you, when He chose you as wives for His Messenger.
