Tafseer of The Family of Imraan · Aal-i-Imraan · 3:34

ذُرِّيَّةًۢ بَعْضُهَا مِنۢ بَعْضٍۢ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ

Descendants, some of them from others. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.

    The explanation of His word: ذُرِّيَّةً بَعْضُهَا مِنْ بَعْضٍ وَاللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ (3:34) (A progeny, one part of it descended from the other; and Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing).

    (A progeny of which one part proceeds from the other; and Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.)

    Abū Jaʿfar said: He means by this: that Allah chose the house of Ibrāhīm and the house of ʿImrān, "a progeny, one part of it descended from the other."

    The word "progeny" (al-dhurriyya) is in the accusative on the basis of separation (qaṭʿ, that is, the adverbial accusative of state) from "the house of Ibrāhīm and the house of ʿImrān," because "progeny" is indefinite, while "the house of ʿImrān" is definite.

    And if one were to say that it is in the accusative on the basis of a repetition of "the choosing" (al-iṣṭifāʾ), that would be correct. For the meaning is: He chose a progeny one part of which proceeded from the other.

    And "one part of them is from the other" was stated only with regard to their mutual alliance in religion (dīn), and their mutual support in Islam and the truth, just as He, exalted be His praise, said: وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتُ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَاءُ بَعْضٍ [surah al-Tawba: 71] (And the believing men and the believing women are protectors of one another), and just as He said in another place: الْمُنَافِقُونَ وَالْمُنَافِقَاتُ بَعْضُهُمْ مِنْ بَعْضٍ [surah al-Tawba: 67] (The hypocrite men and the hypocrite women are one from the other) – he means: that their religion is one and their path is one. Likewise His word: "a progeny, one part of it descended from the other" – its meaning is only: a progeny of which the religion of one part is the religion of the other, and whose word is one, and whose creed (milla) is one in the oneness of Allah and obedience to Him, as:-

    6855 - Bishr related to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His word: "a progeny, one part of it descended from the other." He says: in intention, in action, in sincerity, and in oneness toward Him (tawḥīd).

    And His word: "and Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing" – He means by this: and Allah is the possessor of hearing for the utterance of the wife of ʿImrān, and the possessor of knowledge of what she concealed within herself, when she vowed that which was in her womb to Him as a consecrated (muḥarrar) offering.

    القول في تأويل قوله : ذُرِّيَّةً بَعْضُهَا مِنْ بَعْضٍ وَاللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ (34) قال أبو جعفر: يعني بذلك: إن الله اصطفى آلَ إبراهيم وآل عمران " ذريةً بعضها من بعض ". * * * ف " الذرية " منصوبة على القطع من "آل إبراهيم وآل عمران "، لأن " الذرية "، نكرة، و "آل عمران " معرفة. (21) ولو قيل نصبت على تكرير " الاصطفاء "، لكان صوابًا. لأن المعنى: اصطفى ذريةً بعضُها من بعض. (22) * * * وإنما جعل " بعضهم من بعض " في الموالاة في الدين، والمؤازرة على الإسلام والحق، كما قال جل ثناؤه: وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتُ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَاءُ بَعْضٍ [سورة التوبة: 71]، وقال في موضع آخر: الْمُنَافِقُونَ وَالْمُنَافِقَاتُ بَعْضُهُمْ مِنْ بَعْضٍ [ سورة التوبة: 67]، يعني: أنّ دينهم واحدٌ وطريقتهم واحدة، فكذلك قوله: &; 6-328 &; " ذرية بعضها من بعض "، إنما معناه: ذرية دينُ بعضها دينُ بعض، وكلمتهم واحدةٌ، وملتهم واحدة في توحيد الله وطاعته، كما:- 6855 - حدثنا بشر قال، حدثنا يزيد قال، حدثنا سعيد، عن قتادة قوله: " ذرية بعضها من بعض "، يقول: في النية والعمل والإخلاص والتوحيد له. * * * وقوله: " والله سميعٌ عليمٌ"، يعني بذلك: والله ذُو سمع لقول امرأة عمران، وذو علم بما تضمره في نفسها، إذ نذَرت له ما في بطنها مُحرَّرًا. -------------------- الهوامش : (21) انظر ما سلف في معنى"القطع" ، وهو الحال ، قريبًا ص: 270 ، تعليق: 3.
