The explanation of the saying of the Exalted: الم (1) أَحَسِبَ النَّاسُ أَنْ يُتْرَكُوا أَنْ يَقُولُوا آمَنَّا وَهُمْ لا يُفْتَنُونَ (Alif Lām Mīm (1). Do the people think that they will be left alone because they say, "We believe," without being tested?)
Abū Jaʿfar said: We have already expounded the meaning of the saying of Allah, the Exalted, whose mention is exalted, الم (Alif Lām Mīm), and we have mentioned the sayings of the people of interpretation (tafsīr) concerning its explanation, as well as what is, in our opinion — with its proofs — most in accordance with the correctness of their statements, in what has preceded, in a manner that absolves us from repeating it in this place.
