«ارْجِعْ إِلَيْهِمْ» — this is the word of Sulaymān to the woman's messenger. «فَلَنَأْتِيَنَّهُم بِجُنُودٍ لَّا قِبَلَ لَهُم بِهَا»: no capacity for them to withstand it and no power to repel what they intend against them.
In accordance with what we have said about this, the people of interpretation also spoke.
Mention of who said that:
Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Salama related to us, on the authority of Ibn Isḥāq, from one of the people of knowledge, from Wahb ibn Munabbih, who said: when the gifts reached Sulaymān, containing among them the slave-girls and slaves, the Arabian horses, and various kinds of worldly goods, he said to the envoys who had brought them to him: «أَتُمِدُّونَنِ بِمَالٍ فَمَا آتَانِيَ اللَّهُ خَيْرٌ مِّمَّا آتَاكُم بَلْ أَنتُم بِهَدِيَّتِكُمْ تَفْرَحُونَ» — for I have no need of your gift, and my view concerning it is not like yours; return to her with what you have brought from her: «فَلَنَأْتِيَنَّهُم بِجُنُودٍ لَّا قِبَلَ لَهُم بِهَا».
ʿAmr ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd related to us, saying: Marwān ibn Muʿāwiya related to us, on the authority of Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid, from Abū Ṣāliḥ, concerning His word «فَلَنَأْتِيَنَّهُم بِجُنُودٍ لَّا قِبَلَ لَهُم بِهَا»: he said: no capacity for them to withstand it. And His word «وَلَنُخْرِجَنَّهُم مِّنْهَا أَذِلَّةً وَهُمْ صَاغِرُونَ»: he says: we will surely drive those who sent you out of their land as humiliated ones, while they are lowly, if they do not come to me as Muslims.
