Tafseer of The Poets · Ash-Shu'araa · 26:164

وَمَآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.

    وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ من أجر (And I ask you no reward for it) — that is to say: I ask of you no recompense nor wage for my counsel to you and my summoning of you to my Lord. He says: my reward for summoning you to Allah, for my counsel to you, and for conveying the messages of Allah to you, rests solely with the Lord of the Worlds.

    ( وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ من أجر ) يقول: وما أسألكم على نصيحتي لكم ودعايتكم إلى ربي جزاء ولا ثوابا. يقول: ما جزائي على دعايتكم إلى الله, وعلى نصحي لكم وتبليغ رسالات الله إليكم, إلا على ربّ العالمين.
