Tafseer of The Poets · Ash-Shu'araa · 26:145

وَمَآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.

    And I ask you for no reward for it — that is to say: I ask of you no recompense nor wage for my sincere counsel to you and my warning of you. My reward rests only with the Lord of the worlds — that is to say: my recompense and my reward rest only with the Lord of all that is in the heavens and on the earth and of all the creatures that exist between them.

    ( وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ) يقول: وما أسألكم على نصحي إياكم, وإنذاركم من جزاء ولا ثواب.( إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلا عَلَى رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ) يقول: إن جزائي وثوابي إلا على ربّ جميع ما في السموات, وما في الأرض, وما بينهما من خلق.
