Tafseer of The Poets · Ash-Shu'araa · 26:109

وَمَآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.

    ( "And I ask of you no reward for it" ) — He says: I seek from you no compensation nor wage for my counsel to you and my command to you to fear the punishment of Allah by obeying Him in what He has commanded you and forbidden you. ( "My reward rests only with the Lord of the worlds" ) — and not with you, nor with any creature of Allah whatsoever.

    ( وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ) يقول: وما أطلب منكم على نصيحتي لكم وأمري إياكم باتقاء عقاب الله بطاعته فيما أمركم ونهاكم, من ثواب ولا جزاء ( إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلا عَلَى رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ) دونكم ودون جميع خلق الله.
