And when they are thrown into a narrow place therein bound in chains, they will cry out thereupon for destruction.

Allah — exalted be His praise — says: And when these slanderers concerning the Hour are cast into the Fire in a narrow place, with their hands shackled to their necks in chains — دَعَوْا هُنَالِكَ ثُبُورًا (they cry out there for destruction).
The exegetes differed among themselves concerning the meaning of "thubūr." Some said: It is the recompense (wayl, woe).

ʿAlī related to me, saying: Abū Ṣāliḥ related to us, saying: Muʿāwiya related to me, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His word: وَادْعُوا ثُبُورًا كَثِيرًا (and call for much destruction) — he said: Woe (wayl).
Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, saying: my father related to me, saying: my uncle related to me, saying: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās: لا تَدْعُوا الْيَوْمَ ثُبُورًا وَاحِدًا (Do not call this day for one destruction) — he says: Do not call this day for one woe, but call for much woe.
Others said: "Al-thubūr" is perdition (halāk).
