And they worship besides Allah that for which He has not sent down authority and that of which they have no knowledge. And there will not be for the wrongdoers any helper.

Allah, exalted is His mention, says: These polytheists (mushrikīn) worship, alongside Him, something for which He, exalted be His praise, has sent down no proof in any of the books that He revealed to His messengers — that they should be gods worthy of being worshipped — such that they would worship them on the basis of Allah's permission to do so. Nor do they have any knowledge that they should be gods. وَمَا لِلظَّالِمِينَ مِنْ أَنْصَارٍ ("And there are no helpers for the wrongdoers") — He says: Those who disbelieve in Allah and worship these idols will, on the Day of Resurrection, have no helper to come to their aid, to rescue them from Allah's punishment, or to ward off His torment from them when He wills to punish them.
