Allah the Exalted says: Allah wards off the evil of the polytheists (al-mushrikīn) from those who have believed in Allah and His Messenger. Allah does not love anyone who is treacherous (khawwān) — one who betrays Allah by transgressing His command and His prohibition, disobeying Him and obeying Satan — nor anyone who is ungrateful (kafūr) — that is: one who denies the favors He has bestowed, does not acknowledge the right of the Benefactor, and does not thank Him for them. It has also been said that what is meant by this is: Allah turned the disbelieving Quraysh away from the believers who were in their midst before their emigration (the hijra).
