And [mention] Zechariah, when he called to his Lord, "My Lord, do not leave me alone [with no heir], while you are the best of inheritors."

He, exalted is His mention, says to His Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ:
Remember, O Muḥammad, Zakariyyā, when he called upon his Lord: رَبِّ لا تَذَرْنِي — "My Lord, leave me not" — alone, فَرْدًا — without child or offspring — وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِثِينَن — He says: "So grant me an heir from the lineage of Yaʿqūb who shall inherit from me." Then he committed the matter to Allah and said: "And You are the best of inheritors."
