Tafseer of The Prophets · Al-Anbiyaa · 21:82

وَمِنَ ٱلشَّيَٰطِينِ مَن يَغُوصُونَ لَهُۥ وَيَعْمَلُونَ عَمَلًۭا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ ۖ وَكُنَّا لَهُمْ حَٰفِظِينَ

And of the devils were those who dived for him and did work other than that. And We were of them a guardian.

    He, exalted is His mention, says: We also subjected to Sulaymān, from among the devils, those who dove for him in the sea, and who besides that also performed other labor, such as the building of structures, statues, and places of worship. وَكُنَّا لَهُمْ حَافِظِينَ — He says: We were guardians over their works and their number; the guarding of all this did not burden Us.

    يقول تعالى ذكره: وسخرنا أيضا لسليمان من الشياطين من يغوصون له في البحر، ويعملون عملا دون ذلك من البنيان والتماثيل والمحاريب ( وَكُنَّا لَهُمْ حَافِظِينَ ) ، يقول: وكنا لأعمالهم ولأعدادهم حافظين، لا يئودنا حفظ ذلك كله.
