Allah, exalted is His remembrance, says: Whenever Allah reveals to the people something new from this Qurʾān, reminding and admonishing them thereby, they listen to it while they are at play, with heedless hearts.
In a manner similar to how we have explained this verse, the exegetes of the Qurʾān spoke.
Mention of who said that:
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning the word of Allah مَا يَأْتِيهِمْ مِنْ ذِكْرٍ مِنْ رَبِّهِمْ مُحْدَثٍ (No new remembrance comes to them from their Lord)... to the end of the verse: he said: nothing of the Qurʾān is sent down to them but that they listen to it while they are at play.
