Concerning His word فَلَمَّا أَحَسُّوا بَأْسَنَا (but when they perceived Our might): that is, when they beheld Our chastisement that had descended upon them, and saw it, and felt its touch — one says: "I perceived in so-and-so a certain weakness" (aḥsas-tu min fulān ḍaʿfan), and "I perceived it from him" — إِذَا هُمْ مِنْهَا يَرْكُضُونَ (behold, they fled from it): that is, from the chastisement which they had felt of Our might that descended upon them, they fled away hastily and swiftly, running in flight. One says: "So-and-so spurred on his horse" (rakada fulān farasah), when he has driven it to the utmost in his urging it forward.
