He said, "I saw what they did not see, so I took a handful [of dust] from the track of the messenger and threw it, and thus did my soul entice me."

The exposition of the explanation of the word of the Exalted: قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكَ يَا سَامِرِيُّ (20:95)
The Glorified means by His word فَمَا خَطْبُكَ يَا سَامِرِيُّ: Mūsā said to the Sāmirī: "What then is your affair, O Sāmirī? And what moved you to do what you have done?" As was related to me by Yūnus, who said: Ibn Wahb informed us, who said: Ibn Zayd said, concerning His word فَمَا خَطْبُكَ يَا سَامِرِيُّ: "What is your matter? What is your condition? What is this that made you enter into what you entered into?"
We were related to by Mūsā, who said: ʿAmr related to us, who said: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī, concerning قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكَ يَا سَامِرِيُّ: he said: "What is with you, O Sāmirī?"
