The Exalted says: ثُمَّ نُنَجِّي (then We save) from the Fire, after all have entered it, الَّذِينَ اتَّقَوْا (those who were God-fearing) and feared Him by fulfilling His obligations and avoiding His prohibitions. وَنَذَرُ الظَّالِمِينَ فِيهَا جِثِيًّا (and We leave the wrongdoers therein, kneeling): exalted be His praise — He says: We leave those who wronged themselves by worshipping other than Allah, were disobedient to their Lord, and transgressed His command and His prohibition, in the Fire, kneeling — that is to say: fallen down upon their knees.
In accordance with what we have said about this, the people of tafsir also spoke.
* Mention of who said that:
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazid related to us, saying: Saʿid related to us, on the authority of Qatada — concerning وَنَذَرُ الظَّالِمِينَ فِيهَا جِثِيًّا (We leave the wrongdoers therein, kneeling): upon their knees.
Al-Hasan ibn Yahya related to us, saying: ʿAbd al-Razzaq informed us, saying: Maʿmar informed us, on the authority of Qatada — concerning وَنَذَرُ الظَّالِمِينَ فِيهَا جِثِيًّا : upon their knees.
Yunus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said concerning His word وَنَذَرُ الظَّالِمِينَ فِيهَا جِثِيًّا : he said: al-juthiyy is the worst sitting posture — a man sits only upon his knees when a calamity befalls him.
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazid related to us, saying: Saʿid related to us, on the authority of Qatada, concerning His word ثُمَّ نُنَجِّي الَّذِينَ اتَّقَوْا وَنَذَرُ الظَّالِمِينَ فِيهَا جِثِيًّا : the people entered Hell (jahannam) while it was black and dark; the believers, however, were illuminated by their good deeds and were saved out of it. The disbelievers (kuffar) were destroyed by their deeds and were held fast by their sins.
