[Al-Khidh r] said, "This is parting between me and you. I will inform you of the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience.

The explanation of the words of Allah the Exalted: قَالَ هَذَا فِرَاقُ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنِكَ سَأُنَبِّئُكَ بِتَأْوِيلِ مَا لَمْ تَسْتَطِعْ عَلَيْهِ صَبْرًا (18:78)
Allah, exalted be His mention, says: the companion of Mūsā said to Mūsā: "This" — that is to say: what you said — namely your word لَوْ شِئْتَ لاتَّخَذْتَ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا ("Had you wished, you could have taken a wage for it") — فِرَاقُ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنِكَ — that is to say: the separation (firāq) between me and you; it is the point of parting between me and you.
سَأُنَبِّئُكَ — Allah says: I will inform you — بِتَأْوِيلِ مَا لَمْ تَسْتَطِعْ عَلَيْهِ صَبْرًا — that is to say: of the final outcome (taʾwīl) of my deeds that I performed, regarding which you could not refrain from questioning and could not endure to leave off condemning. And Allah knows best.
