Tafseer of The Night Journey · Al-Israa · 17:63
[Allah] said, "Go, for whoever of them follows you, indeed Hell will be the recompense of you - an ample recompense.

Allah the Exalted says: Allah spoke to Iblīs, after the latter had said لَئِنْ أَخَّرْتَنِي إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لأَحْتَنِكَنَّ ذُرِّيَّتَهُ إِلا قَلِيلا : "Go forth — I have granted you respite. But whoever of them, that is, of the descendants of Ādam ﷺ, follows you and obeys you, hell (jahannam) is the recompense for you and them." He says: "The recompense for you, on account of your calling them to disobedience against Me, and the recompense for them on account of their compliance with you and their opposition to My command." جَزَاءً مَوْفُورًا : he says: "An ample and complete recompense."
As Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His words قَالَ اذْهَبْ فَمَنْ تَبِعَكَ مِنْهُمْ فَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ جَزَاؤُكُمْ جَزَاءً مَوْفُورًا : he said: "The punishment of jahannam (ʿadhāb) is their recompense and a vengeance from Allah upon His enemies; none of it will be averted from them."
Al-Qāsim related to us, saying: al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning فَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ جَزَاؤُكُمْ جَزَاءً مَوْفُورًا : he said: "Ample and complete."
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning (مَوْفُورًا): he said: "Ample and complete."
