Allah — may His praise be exalted — says to His Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ: "Let these polytheists (mushrikīn), O Muḥammad, eat in this world what they will eat, and enjoy its pleasures and lusts therein, until the time that has been appointed for them. And let vain hope distract them from attending to their share of obedience to Allah therein, and from gathering provision for their return from the world — provision that would bring them to their Lord — for they shall know tomorrow when they appear before Him, after they have died in their disbelief (kufr) toward Allah and their polytheism: when they behold the punishment (ʿadhāb) of Allah, they will realize that, through their enjoyment of what they enjoyed — the pleasures and lusts of the world — they were in loss and ruin."
