Assuredly, it is they in the Hereafter who will be the greatest losers.

The discussion of the interpretation of the word of the Exalted: لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّهُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ هُمُ الْأَخْسَرُونَ (22)
Abū Jaʿfar said: The Exalted — praised be His remembrance — says: "Truly, these are the people whose nature has been described in the foregoing; they are in the Hereafter the greatest losers — those who have exchanged their dwelling-places in the Gardens for the dwelling-places that the people of the Garden would have had in the Fire. And that is the manifest loss."
We have already explained in the foregoing that the meaning of the word "jaramtu" is: I have earned the sin, and "jaramtuhu" — that is to say: I have committed it; and that the Arabs frequently used the word in places of oaths, and in places of "lā budda" (there is no escape from it), as in their expression: "lā jarama annaka dhāhibun" — with the meaning of "there is no avoiding it"; until they then went on to use it also in places of emphasis and corroboration, and said: "lā jarama la-taqūmanna" — with the meaning of: "truly, you shall surely arise." The meaning of the expression is therefore: there is no holding back from the fact that they, and no averting of the fact that they [are the greatest losers].
