The explanation of the words of the Exalted: وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يُؤْمِنُ بِهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ لا يُؤْمِنُ بِهِ وَرَبُّكَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْمُفْسِدِينَ (40)
Abū Jaʿfar says: Allah the Exalted says: and among your people, O Muḥammad, from Quraysh, there are those who will believe in it — that is to say: who will affirm the Qurʾān and acknowledge that it comes from Allah — وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ لا يُؤْمِنُ بِهِ and among them are those who will never believe in it — that is to say: who will never affirm it nor acknowledge it — وَرَبُّكَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْمُفْسِدِينَ that is to say: Allah knows the deniers among them better than anyone, those who will never affirm it; nothing is hidden from Him, and He stands behind His punishment. As for the one for whom I have decreed that he will believe in it — for him I will bring about the acceptance of repentance. (19)
